The Snowflake

When I upwards turn my eyes,
To gaze at somber, wintry skies,
It seems absurd I must admit,
That crystal gems should fall from it.
Freed from earth to flight with ease,
but gracious captive of the breeze.
A dance from mount to hill below.
A single little note, in a symphony of snow.

Happy Birthday, Jo-Jo!

Today is the 6th birthday of my youngest sister!
With her fun, sweet, and sometimes feisty personality, Jo-jo has been a constant source of joy and delight for my whole family.
Even at her young age she is very eager to learn more about Christ and has a strong desire to please him. She often gently corrects me when she sees I'm in the wrong and reminds me to do what's right.
She has such a caring, tender heart and has been one of my biggest comforts and encouragements. I can't imagine what my life would be like without her.
I pray that the Lord will protect her and guide her as she grows, blessing her as much as she has already blessed me. I can't wait to see the wonderful young lady I know she'll be someday!

Graphic Designs for The Olde English Tea Room

Front of the Business Card

Hey, everyone!
I looked over my posting and realized (to my horror) that I hadn't posted since February!
I've done some paid graphic design jobs, gotten a job as a waitress, had a birthday and played nine performances with a pit orchestra at a local Christian school.

I recently did a few graphic design jobs for the Old English Tea and Gift Shoppe, located in downtown Wake Forest.

Business Card Back
From my very first visit, I fell in love with the Tea Room. The beautiful decor, dainty little tea cup, the terrific staff, not to mention the sugar cubes.
It's a quiet restaurant with a charming atmosphere, terrific teas, and great food. If you've never been there, I highly recommend it.

I've done a few projects for the Tea Room so far, (event brochures, a newsletter header and business cards) all of which were pretty fun to design.

Both the business card and brochure were requested in black and white. There were two reasons for this: It's simple and elegant, and it's much more cost effective, especially when it comes to professional printing.

If you need any help with designs or are interested in hiring me, please like my Facebook Page and post on my wall. I'm still building my portfolio so I love to help you with at least one project for free as long as I'm allowed to post it here on my blog.

Please contact me if you're interested.
I look forward to designing for you!

Happy Valentine's Day!

1st Corinthians 13:

1  Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not love, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.   2  And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not love, I am nothing.   3  And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not love, it profiteth me nothing.   4  Love suffereth long, and is kind; love envieth not; love vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,   5  Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;   6  Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;   7  Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.   8  Love never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.   9  For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.   10  But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.   11  When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.   12  For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.   13  And now abideth faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

Remember what love really is!

Happy Valentines Day from Everlasting Imagination!

After the Bands Played (A Real Man)

It's pretty cool, having a band director as a father. There a lot of weird, random perks that come with it. Like the fact that I got to go to all the football games and competitions free this year. Maybe it's because I'm a musician, but I absolutely love going to performances, concerts and competitions of any sort. I hadn't made it to any of the competitions during the fall, so naturally, I was thrilled when I found I would finally get to go to the last one that year.

The band competition was everything I hoped it would be and the marching band had done an amazing job. I always enjoyed their shows. By the time the competition had ended, night had fallen. Back at the school, it was chaotic for my dad, unloading instruments and making sure kids had their rides home. Finally, the band room was totally emptied of people. Only my dad and I remained.

Finally able to take a breath and relax, he looked and me and smiled. "Do you know about my tradition?" My dad is a well-known among his family, friends, and students as being germ-a-phobic. It was only natural that the first thing he did was grab the bottle of Germ-X and pump a large amount into his hands.

"Tradition?" I grinned. "You mean the Germ-X?" I too grabbed the Germ-X and rubbed a generous amount of it into my hands.

"No." He bowed his head and I did the same, closing my eyes. After the noise and busyness of the competition and bus ride, it seemed almost absolutely silent. "Dear God...." He began. He offered up a prayer of sincere thanks for the day, his students, the band.

My dad had been teaching marching band for years. I'm not sure why I had never been with him before to discover his tradition of prayer and yet, after every competition, as soon as he was alone, he would bow his head in thanks.

There are many little moments in life that I cherish.Sometimes for no particular reason at all. A kind word just when I needed it most, an unexpected gesture of kindness or those quiet moments with a friend, family member, or God. That humble, sweet prayer is one of my most cherished memories.

As he prayed, a thought entered my mind. My dad is a real man. What makes him a real man?

A Real Man is
  • Someone who loves God and His Word.
  • A Servant Leader to his wife and family.
  • A Protector of Truth and of the people he loves.
  • Someone who stands strong for what he believes, but is gracious and forgiving of others who wrong him.
  • Someone who cares for and respects others, even if it means sacrificing his ego.
  • Someone who is humble enough to admit when he is wrong.
  • A man who Prays.
After my dad, I'd say my future husband has some big shoes to fill. My dad is the best man I know

The Reverse

Here's an interesting article I found:

Screen Shot 2013-01-02 at 7.21.04 PMIf you've never heard of this kind of "backwards addiction", please read this article. It is a real problem that a lot of women have fallen prey to, and most of them don't even realize it!

This is something I struggle with too. I care far too much about my looks and not enough about what God thinks. Girls, let's remember to dress to please God and not the world.
